Spider-Man: Far From Home will culminate Marvel’s phase 3. And with no other film set to release in 2019 after that, Phase 4 won’t officially start until 2020. The Infinity Saga began with Iron Man and ended with him. But a new chapter is about to start in Phase 4, and everyone is more than excited about it.
Following the latest Disney-Fox merger, Disney released a revised schedule of release dates for countless movies from different franchises. These include the upcoming 3 Star Wars movies, Avatar sequels, Pixar films. But Disney also released the schedule for not one, not two, but eight upcoming Marvel movie and the excitement is unfathomable, to say the least. The bad news, though, is the fact that each and every one of those Marvel movies is “Untitled”.
Here is the list of the release dates that Disney released:
1} May 1st, 2020
2} November 6th, 2020
3} February 12th, 2021
4} May 7th, 2021
5} November 5th , 2021
6} February 18th, 2022
7} May 6th, 2022
8} July 29th, 2022
It is quite obvious from the schedule above that we will get only two Marvel movies in 2020. This quite unlike the three movies that we are used to getting every year for the past several years. On top of that, which movie will kick-start Marvel’s Phase 4 has not yet been revealed. Also, a good ten long months will go between Spider-Man: Far From Home and the first movie from Phase 4.
However, it is also worth noting that Disney has labeled these release dates for “Untitled Marvel” movies, and not Untitled MCU movies. Considering this fact, one or more of these movies could quite possibly revolve around other Marvel characters that Fox owned prior to the Disney-Fox merger.
Natasha Romanoff, the Black Widow, in a still from Captain America: The Winter Soldier
While the Black Widow movie, the Eternals movie, and Shang-Chi have been confirmed, none of them have a release date yet. And many other Marvel movies are in various stages of production according to the rumours. These include a sequel to the Black Panther and Doctor Strange movies each. But they haven’t yet been confirmed. James Gunn is involved in Suicide Squad, so we probably won’t be seeing the Guardians- who are now accompanied by Thor- until 2021, at least.
It is true that we don’t have a film for each of the release dates, but by the looks of it, the Black Widow movie kicking off Marvel’s Phase 4 seems quite likely. That’s because, following Natasha’s death in Avengers: Endgame, the Black Widow movie will, more likely than not, be a prequel. And it only seems logical to release the movie before the plot of the upcoming chapter in the MCU starts thickening.
It seems like we will be waiting quite a while before another superhero team-up.
