Yes, you heard that right. After the shock that was his firing from Disney almost a year ago, Disney has decided to reinstate James Gunn as the director for Guardians of the Galaxy 3.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Directed by James Gunn
Gunn was fired by Disney when some of his old tweets, which were in bad taste, were revealed to the public last year. And while some may argue that Disney should always have known about this, it only added fuel to the fire. Before this, James Gunn had directed the first two Guardians of the Galaxy movies, which were under the banner of Marvel Studios.

After he left the project, Marvel boss Kevin Feige confirmed that his script for the third installment would be used for production. Consequently, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 was put on hold after Gunn’s firing. However, now that James Gunn is back, it looks like the film will get back on track soon.
Gunn is currently developing the upcoming Suicide Squad sequel for Marvel’s rival DC. As per reports, Gunn will be directing the Suicide Squad sequel this fall, with the Guardians installment starting production next year at the earliest. That would give the movie enough time to secure a 2021 release.
