Despite everyone’s guesses, last year’s Venom proved to be a major hit for Sony. With the studio now sharing the rights to their signature character Spider-Man, it makes sense that it would be trying their hands on new franchises. However, this deal has left many fans confused as to whether Tom Hardy’s Venom shares the same cinematic universe as Tom Holland’s Spider-Man. Well, it seems like Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige might have heard that call.
At a recent event, Feige was asked about the possibility of a crossover, to which he responded:
“I think probably it’s up to Sony. Sony has both those characters and has Venom in their world. I don’t know what their plans are for another Venom or if they’re doing that. But it seems likely at some point.”
Marvel Spider-Man Far From Home
While it isn’t any confirmation, the recent announcement of production starting on Venom 2 does seem to indicate that a crossover with Spidey may indeed have already been planned. The upcoming Spider-Man: Far From Home does seem to be dealing with the heavy topic of multiverses, something that last year’s Into the Spider-Verse also dealt with. Could Sony be laying the seeds for an upcoming face-off in the Homecoming sequel? Possibly.
While we love to speculate on the inner workings of the studios, it has to be taken with a grain of salt. With the success of Venom, Sony now has enough confidence in a property that it can not rely on Spider-Man anymore. And with Far From Home already getting rave reviews on social media, it’s almost a given that the film will be making a billion dollars, or at least come close to it.
Tom Hardy’s Venom
It can also be possible that the film’s 2 post-credits scenes might hint towards the inevitable crossover with Tom hardy’s Eddy Brock. Whatever it is, we’ll only have to wait and see.
Spider-Man: Far From Home releases worldwide on July 5th.
