James Wan with Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson
It was announced in October 2018 that Michael Chaves will be the new director. Wan served as a producer for Chaves’ directorial debut The Curse of La Llorona which is set to release on 19th April 2019. Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga will be reprising their role as American paranormal analysts Ed and Lorraine Warren respectively. The plot is based on a man who uses demonic possessions as an excuse when he stands for trial. Wan has also mentioned that more movies of the franchise may come up, each having a different case from the Warren files.
Micahel Chaves was asked by James Wan to direct the new Conjuring movie
Fans have high expectations from the movie as the previous film of the universe The Nun received poor reviews from both critics and the audience. The franchise has been consistent and successful in the box office, the entire Conjuring universe grossing over $1.5 billion worldwide. Meanwhile, an untitled Annabelle film is also set to release on 28th June 2019. Rumors are that the new Annabelle film will focus more on Ed and Lorraine’s daughter Judy, as teased in the original Conjuring.
Meanwhile, another spin-off titled as The Crooked Man has been announced, with Mike Van Waes currently developing a script.
