When and How Will We Get the Sinister Six Team-Up in The MCU?

Michael Keaton played the Vulture in Spider-Man: Homecoming. He was the main villain, and 15-year old Peter successfully defeated him in the movie. But, “the flying vulture guy” seemed to hold a grudge towards Spider-Man (who he later discovered was Peter himself) for a majority of the movie. And we know that he was imprisoned for his crimes. But the Vulture isn’t the only villain Spider-Man: Homecoming introduced.

The Vulture with the (potential) Tinkerer in Spider-Man: Homecoming

We saw a bunch of potential villains in Spider-Man: Homecoming. We saw Miles Morales’ uncle, Aaron Davis (Prowler), Vulture’s very own, more evil version of Tony Stark (potential Tinkerer), and the Shocker. Not only them, but the movie also gave us Michael Mando, who is the Scorpion. That makes it five out of six.

And now, Spider-Man: Far From Home is going to give us Mysterio. Well, in all the clips and trailers released, Mysterio seems to be the good guy. In the comic books, though, he’s a super dangerous villain. Which means, the trailers and clips may be trying to mislead us, who knows? So, if that is, in fact, the case, then Mysterio is the sixth villain to add to the list of super-villains.

And, guess what? They could totally make the Sinister Six!

A lot of fans have been predicting this team-up ever since the mid-credits scene in Spider-Man: Homecoming. This theory stems from the conversation that Michael Keaton and Michael Mando’s characters had during their brief meeting in the prison. It was, indeed, a very interesting conversation. “I’ve got some boys on the outside that would love to meet him [Spider-Man]. You know, take a picture, slice his throat, put his head in a dryer. And I heard a rumor that you know who he is”. That’s what Scorpion says to Vulture. But, we don’t see the Vulture giving up Peter’s identity.

However, it is also possible that Scorpion’s “boys” could be six completely different people who want to defeat Spider-Man, too. You know, because they are Scorpion’s “boys”. This theory is also very likely to happen, especially because Scorpion kinda hinted at it, in a way.

What are the Sinister Six?

Stan Lee created the Sinister Six way back in 1964. Doctor Octopus had assembled the original members to defeat Spider-Man. Wow, six against one, that’s a little bit unfair, I think. The original six included Doc Ock, Vulture, Kraven the Hunter, Mysterio, Electro, and Sandman. That group, like any other group in Marvel, also underwent changes. The members changed a considerable amount of times. But the most noteworthy members who were later a part of the Sinister Six were Scorpion, Prowler, Rhino, Green Goblin, and Lizard.

We already have four of them in the MCU, albeit in not so villainous forms. That can be arranged, though. And there is a considerable amount of difference in the plots of the comics and the MCU. So, changing a couple of villains won’t really do much harm.

A spin-off of the Sinister Six

The Sinister Six have also had a number of spin-offs in the MCU. There are the Sinister Sixteen, the Sinister Twelve, the Sinister Sixty-Six. Now, I genuinely think that the Sinister Sixty-Six super-villain alliance goes a bit too far. I mean, why would you need sixty-five different allies to beat one (1) superhero?

How Could We See This Group of Super-Villains in the MCU?

Potential Spoilers Ahead

As mentioned earlier, a lot of fans started forming theories about the Sinister Six’s existence in the MCU as soon as Spider-Man: Homecoming hit the big screen. But how, exactly, would the Sinister Six be introduced in the MCU remained a mystery.

We had already established that Spider-Man: Far From Home was going to deliver some important post-credits scenes. And recently, a Reddit user claimed that he knows one of the two possible post-credits scenes of Spider-Man: Far From Home. It shows the formation of the Sinister Six after Mysterio fails to defeat Spider-Man. One of the five remaining villains recruits him, according to the Reddit user, who claims to be a freelance special effects artist for Disney. This mystery source may not necessarily be reliable, but the theory seems plausible.

Whether we see the bad guys’ kitty party in Spider-Man: Far From Home or not, I am pretty sure Marvel will bless us with it in at least one of the future MCU movies. Not doing so seems like an almost foolish move for Marvel, especially because more than half of these characters have already been introduced in the MCU.
