SPOILERS FOR AVENGERS: ENDGAME
There was so much hype over just the trailers and clips of Marvel’s Avengers: Endgame, it definitely wasn’t hard to imagine what the response to the movie would be like. The excitement for the movie was extremely overwhelming. It was a conclusion of 11 years’ worth of 21 Marvel movies. And now that the movie’s out, we can assure you that the wait was most definitely worth it.
The events that led to Avengers: Endgame in the MCU were grave and terrifying. So obviously, nobody expected the film to be simple. And everybody knows Marvel does not do simple. But the twists and turns that the movie has are simply going to leave the watchers dizzy. ‘Unexpectedly expected’ is probably the shortest yet best way to describe Avengers: Endgame. Not every movie has the ability (or the audacity) to have almost the whole audience in tears. But that’s exactly what Marvel does in this one. There are many reasons to cry here. One of those reasons being the end of this glorious and astonishing 11-year long journey.
Everything that we’ve experienced all throughout this journey will last us a lifetime. Natasha’s determination, Captain’s courage and bravery, the real Tony hidden behind a façade, Banner’s clever and calm persona in spite of his alter ego, Hawkeye’s wits, Thor’s ability to absolutely never lose hope are just some of the things that have inspired us. The entirety of MCU was filled to the brim with many other similar things worth being inspired from. But like Tony Stark said, “Part of the journey is the end”. And it’s about time we accepted that. And although Avengers: Endgame is one epic conclusion to Marvel’s Infinity Saga, nobody really has an idea of what the fourth phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe entails. Though there are a few rumors here and there.
After Endgame, we know it is the end of the book for both Black Widow, and Iron Man. And it’s pretty much the same for Captain America, because him fighting the bad guys after what happened in Endgame is pretty unimaginable. Thor’s still in the picture, but nobody’s sure up to what extent. Clint will most probably go back to his quiet, retired life. And as for the Hulk, he didn’t really give off avenging vibes at end of Endgame. The fact that we won’t be able to see the original 6 together again, is thus crystal clear. So here’s what we have on the future of Marvel.
What’s next for Marvel?
What comes immediately after Avengers: Endgame is Spiderman: Far From Home. It is the last movie of phase 3. Jake Gyllenhaal plays Mysterio in the movie. Mysterio is the villain in the comics. But that seemingly isn’t the case in the movie. According to director Jon Watts, Gyllenhaal’s Quentin Beck is “almost like the cool uncle” to Holland’s Peter Parker. “If Tony Stark was sort of the mentor in the previous films, we thought it would be interesting to play Mysterio as almost like the cool uncle”, Watts said in an interview.
The Black Widow movie is reportedly in the works. Marvel is pretty hush-hush about the project. But after Endgame, we know for sure that Natasha deserves a standalone movie. The movie is rumored to deal with the origin of Natasha Romanoff, a former Russian spy who later became the S.H.I.E.L.D. agent we came to know and love so much.
Doctor Strange 2, Black Panther 2, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 are also some of the other movies that we will most probably see in phase 4. With Thor on the Benatar at the end of Endgame, he might as well be a Guardian in the third film. A Shang Chi movie, and The Eternals movie are also confirmed.
When it comes to the Avengers, it’s clear as day that they’re going to be replaced by the newer heroes. But who? With the way Endgame ended, we know Sam Wilson is going to have a humongous role to play. But Disney has announced The Falcon and The Winter Soldier series on Disney+. So if we will see him and Bucky on the big screen again is still an unanswered question. Same goes for the Scarlet Witch. But the biggest question of all is whether or not they will have a team-up the way the original Avengers did. Because as unlikely as it sounds, the new heroes might go solo instead of working in a team. Well, we sure hope that won’t be the case.
We could also get a Captain Marvel sequel from Marvel. And with how Captain Marvel ended, it might be her taking over the Kree empire, just like she promised in the movie. A sequel for Ant-Man and The Wasp also seems very likely. Marvel could include other comic book characters that have the potential of being in the MCU. But the chances of that happening are pretty slim.
Villains like Magneto and Doctor Doom could be potential supervillains for upcoming Marvel movies because of the Disney-Fox merger.
The very famous Disney-Fox merger could also prove to be a key shaping aspect when it comes to MCU’s phase 4. Defeating Thanos doesn’t mean there will be no other villains. And the Disney-Fox merger could open doors for mighty villains like Magneto, Galactus, and Doctor Doom in the MCU.
So Avengers: Endgame is not really the end of Marvel. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is far from over, even after Endgame. The fourth phase of the MCU awaits us. And hopefully the next journey we’re about to embark upon will be as splendid and magnificent as this one was.
