From the looks of it, Phase 4 will see the rise of a major franchise in the MCU: The Eternals. Comic legend Jack Kirby was the one who created The Eternals in 1976. The Eternals were created nearly a million years ago by The Celestials. They expedited the advancement of a handful of subjects, giving them the capability to orchestrate a specific amount of cosmic energy, and also granting them superhuman traits.
Although most Eternals look more similar to humans than not, their superior biological traits give them a handful of perks. These include superhuman strength, long lives, regeneration, resilience, resistance to age and diseases, and other powers that mortal men couldn’t even dream of having. The Deviants are their genetic cousins, also created by the Celestials.
Angelina Jolie’s Connection to The Eternals
Moving on to Angelina Jolie’s involvement with the MCU, she recently attended the premiere of Disney’s Dumbo. She has also starred in Disney’s Maleficent but hasn’t yet had any associations with the MCU. However, rumor has it that the Academy Award-winning actress has been roped in to star in Marvel Studios’ The Eternals. Director Chloe Zhao is set to direct the film. Angelina Jolie apparently has the lead role in the comic book flick. The details of the role, however, are being kept under wraps for now, at least.
Angelina Jolie was also reportedly in talks with Fox the role that we saw Jessica Chastain playing in Dark Phoenix. At this point, who made the right choice is crystal clear.
The shooting is supposed to take place in the UK, according to the reports. Usually, Marvel Studios productions shot in the UK are shot at the Pinewood Studios. The list of Marvel films shot in the facility includes Doctor Strange, Avengers: Age of Ultron, GoTG, and Captain America: The First Avenger. Disney Productions such as Rogue One, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Star Wars: Episode IX, Dumbo, Cinderella among others have also been shot in the same facility.
The film’s story will probably focus on a female Eternal, Sersi (not to be confused with the GoT character). In the comics, she has the power to transmute matter, and has the propensity to turn humans into animals. The movie is reportedly supposed to go under production in September this year. The plot of the movie is currently a mystery, but Jolie’s team up with the MCU is terribly exciting.
Marvel hasn’t yet made any official announcement pertaining to the release date of the Eternals. Even if that is the case, Disney has been hinting at November 2020, so we have high hopes for that one. Expectation from this one are incredibly high, but the MCU rarely disappoints.
