We are going to see Will Smith as the genie in Disney’s live-action adaptation of Aladdin this year. But director Ang Lee has done us one better and graced us with two Wills in his directorial venture Gemini Man. Fortunately, them not being blue does not cause controversy this time around. Interestingly, Will Smith plays a younger version of himself in his movie. That is one of his two roles. Clearly, Marvel isn’t the only one in the business with the super cool de-aging tech.

Will Smith plays Henry Brogen, an aging assassin who wants out of the game. But his younger clone seems to be a problem. He is tasked with killing his clone for some reason not revealed in the trailer. A cherry on the top is that the clone can predict Henry’s every move. But the same probably can’t be said about Henry, at least from what the trailer gives out. What’s more interesting, though, is that the clone initially doesn’t know that he’s a clone. The trailer reveals that the clone discovers this piece of information somewhere within the movie.
And he seems to love motorbikes. The trailer blesses us with a fair share of action scenes between the two Smiths. Gemini Man, alongside Smith, also stars Benedict Wong, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, an Clive Owen.
Gemini Man is a sci-fi thriller directed by Ang Lee (_Life of P_i) and produced by action veteran Jerry Bruckheimer. It is co-written by David Benioff, who is also the co-creator of Game of Thrones. That is quite an interesting list of names behind the camera. But what surpasses the level of interesting everything about this film has achieved in general is it’s experimental nature. Ang Lee shot Gemini Man at an unusually high frame rate of 120 fps. He was the one who shot Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk, the first ever feature-length film at such a high frame rate. The experiment didn’t necessarily receive a warm welcome at the box office from the critics. But Lee is sure that he has it all figured out this time around.
Gemini Man comes out on October 11 this year.
