NINE NINE! The American Police sitcom that we all love has been renewed for another season by NBC. Yes, we’re getting a new season of Brooklyn 99 after all!
“It’s been one of our great joys as a network to give Brooklyn Nine-Nine a second life.”
-Lisa Katz and Tracey Pakosta, co-presidents of scripted programming at NBC Entertainment.
This will be the 7th season of Brooklyn 99 overall, and the second season for the show under NBC. NBC picked up the show for season 6 (that is airing now) in May 2018, just a day after Fox cancelled it.
“Ever since we sold this show to FOX I’ve regretted letting it get away, and it’s high time it came back to its rightful home.”
- said NBC Entertainment Chairman Robert Greenblatt.
A still from Season 6 episode 1
Even though only 7 episodes of season 6 have been aired as of now, the general response has been great.
Brooklyn 99, with all its humour and comedic moments, tackles big issues like racism, corruption, stereotypes, gender equality and homophobia as well. It is a very progressive and diverse show, with the representation of all types of people. This season is rumoured to have a #MeToo episode. In the past, we’ve seen episodes revolving around Rosa’s bisexuality, Terry being discriminated against, and other societal issues.
This season will see the regular cast returning, with Andy Samberg as Jake Peralta, Stephanie Beatriz as Rosa Diaz, Terry Crews as Terry Jeffords, Melissa Fumero as Amy Santiago, Joe Lo Truglio as Charles Boyle, Chelsea Peretti as Gina Linetti, and Andre Braugher as Captain Holt. Peretti made a spectacular but emotional exit as a regular this season, but it has been confirmed that she will be returning for season 7. Noice!
